What does it look like?

Known only in the cultivated state, the species Avena sativa was probably domesticated in central and northern Europe around 2500 BC.

Its first uses in herbal medicine come from traditional Indian ayurvedic medicine.

The flakes are used for the preparation of nourishing porridges to restore strength. In infusion, they stimulate appetite, reduce throat pain and have a strengthening effect in case of nervous fatigue.

Why is it so good for your hair?

Romans and Greeks already used the moisturizing benefits of oats in baths to nourish, soothe and repair their damaged skin. Today, oats are popular in cosmetics for their antioxidant properties thanks to the vitamin E found in the germ protecting the cells of the body and hair.

At Klorane, we carry out the extraction of the asset ourselves on our site in Gaillac in the southwest of France. Through a green extraction process that respects the plant and the environment, we obtain a highly concentrated natural active ingredient for all hair types, even the most delicate ones: oat milk brings shine and suppleness. We tested the active under dermatological control so that it is suitable for children from 3 years old: mission accomplished for its high pediatric tolerance!

 

A WORD FROM THE EXPERT

As oats are a hardy cereal, with low water consumption and little susceptibility to disease, we harvest their grains at full maturity to guarantee the highest quality of active ingredients: flavonoids.

Societal and environmental commitment

In addition to being derived from organic and circular agriculture, our oat milk formulas are biodegradable.

The oats grown in organic farming, the active and the finished product are manufactured within a radius of 48 kilometers, on our own lands in the southwest of France. We are thus committed to a circular economy system through the valorization as fuel of the marc of oat plants after extraction for a biomass boiler on our manufacturing site of finished cosmetic product. Our formulas are biodegradable according to the OECD 301B standard.

Did you know ?

Legend has it that the English snubbed the Scots, who already used oats in their diet. It seems that one could find in a famous English dictionary of 1755 this definition: «Oat: cereal that the Scots consume, but that the English only give to their horses».
