What does it look like?

Galanga is a herbaceous plant native to Southeast Asia and belonging to the vast family of Zingiberaceae, which includes other medicinal plants and spices such as turmeric, ginger, cardamom.

The Galanga plant is today widely cultivated in Asia for the conditional and medicinal properties of its rhizome. Branched and tuberous, it has a spicy smell characteristic of the Zingiberaceae

The aerial parts of Galanga can reach up to 2 meters in height. Its flowers are white to pale green, fragrant, while the fruit is a brown or red capsule, oblong or ellipsoid, containing 3 to 6 seeds.

THE VIRTUES OF OUR GALANGAL

Why is it so effective against dandruff?

The appearance of dandruff corresponds to an abnormal squamation of epidermal cells at the scalp level. The cells multiply too quickly and do not give dead cells time to eliminate themselves as they proceed. This phenomenon is reinforced by an imbalance in the scalp microbiome and by the proliferation of Malassezia fungi that cause inflammation and irritation.

This is where Galanga (Alpinia galanga) comes in: used in traditional Chinese medicine, its anti-inflammatory, cleansing and soothing action proves particularly formidable to treat this fungus. This natural fungicide will rebalance and cleanse the scalp but also eliminate dandruff immediately and for a long time. Your hair is freed from dandruff.

Societal and environmental commitment

The Klorane Botanical Foundation* has established a lasting partnership with several Indonesian communities on the island of Flores.

This action has made it possible to implement a responsible cultivation of galanga in agroforestry, with concrete benefits:

  • The valuation of farmers' incomes
  • The preservation of local biodiversity
  • The fight against the alarming deforestation of the island.

In partnership with the NGO Cœur de forêt, 22,000 new trees of various species are planted over 6 years.

In parallel, schoolchildren and villagers will join awareness programs to better understand local biodiversity and ancestral knowledge about medicinal plants.

So that knowledge is not lost, and health is within everyone’s reach.

*Corporate foundation for the protection and enhancement of plant heritage since 1994.
