Native to South America, the nasturtium was introduced to Europe and France by Dutch conquistadors at the end of the 17th century. It then appeared in the gardens of monasteries, known for its benefits as an aromatic and medicinal plant.

The trumpet-shaped flowers are reminiscent of a cap, which is why it was given its French name "capucine", while others claim that its leaves are shaped like a shield and its flowers are reminiscent of ancient soldiers' helmets.

Nasturtiums are easily recognisable because they always attract an army of aphids in their wake, a sign of healthy soil.

In its native Peru, the nasturtium is pollinated by hummingbirds. In Europe, bumblebees make a hole in the side to steal nectar from the flower at the end of a long stalk.

THE PROPERTIES OF NASTURTIUM

Why is it so good for us?

Already used for thousands of years in Mexico and Peru for disinfecting, healing and expectorating, nasturtium is now used in dermocosmetics to treat skin, nail and scalp disorders. We recommend it to tackle a common problem: dandruff!

We have selected the Tropaeolum majus l. species for its purifying active ingredient content. Our farmers harvest the nasturtiums by hand, carefully removing the earth residue, then drying them at a temperature always below 60°C so as not to alter their effectiveness. The flowering plants are used in their entirety to take advantage of their richness in glucotropaeolin, whose purifying and cleansing properties restore the balance of the scalp.
