Yes, the expiry date guarantees the effectiveness of the active ingredients in products as well as the quality of correct preservation of the various ingredients. Beyond this date, we no longer guarantee the product's effectiveness. It is therefore preferable to refrain from using the product.
There is also a lifespan after opening the product. Every product has an icon (e.g., open pot) on the packaging, which mentions the duration of the expiry after opening, expressed in months.

We’re very sorry that you’ve encountered an issue with one of our products. Please contact our customer service department: customerservice.team@pierre-fabre.com

Please to contact our cosmetovigilance service by clicking here: customerservice.team@pierre-fabre.com to describe the problem, the circumstances under which they occurred and your contact details. The cosmetovigilance department will try to get back to you as soon as possible.

Consumer safety is a requirement under European and UK cosmetic legislation and is an absolute priority for the Klorane brand and Pierre Fabre Laboratories.

The evaluation of product safety is based on three tests:
- assessment of raw materials safety
- assessment of finished products
- cosmetovigilance: our service ensures the follow-up of product tolerance in order to answer consumer questions and collect information likely to improve the product.

Yes, some Klorane products include parabens. Parabens are the original natural preservatives
that protect cosmetic products from bad bacteria and fungi. They have long been used in cosmetic products.
Listening to consumer concerns, Pierre Fabre Laboratories will replace parabens as and when they are reformulated. As a result, new products on the market will no longer contain parabens.

It depends on the product. Please check out the dedicated product page where you'll find whether the product can or cannot be used while pregnant / breastfeeding.

We completely understand why you've asked. Some Klorane products include silicone, but only those that have been proven to be safe. In 2021, all Klorane shampoo formulas (except dry shampoos), shower gels and creams will be reviewed and silicones will be completely removed from their formulas.

COMMITMENTS

COMMITMENTS

Klorane is a brand committed to the planet: it has never ceased to explore and protect the riches of botany, while respecting human beings.

Klorane Botanical Foundation is a company foundation of Pierre Fabre Laboratories, created in 1994. Its mission is to protect and enhance plant heritage. For more than 25 years, it has sown the seeds of botanical passion around the world. Through its commitment to various programmes (Botanist Seed, UNESCO Green Citizens, Botany For Change), Klorane botanical foundation gives plants the role they deserve in our lives and cities. Klorane, a founding member of the foundation, supports the commitment of Klorane Botanical Foundation.

One of our commitments in our environmental approach is recycling our packaging.
All plastic packaging (tubes and bottles) of our products contains at least 25% recycled plastic.
Our shampoo bottles contain between 50% and 100% recycled plastic (excluding cap).

98% of our products are made in France. We prioritise MADE IN FRANCE, by promoting short supply chains between our extraction site, our laboratory supplier and our production site in order to minimise our impact on the environment in the Tarn region.
The other 2% not produced in France are the baby wipes, hair nutritional supplements, sprays and dry shampoos for industrial know-how questions. The Klorane brand and, more broadly the Pierre Fabre group, is committed to combining our region of origin, Occitania in the company's development.

The Klorane brand is a part of Laboratoires Pierre Fabre Dermo-cosmétique. With regards to this, the aim of our group is to: Reduce our waste by 15% by 2025.
We are also committed to addressing the issue of waste beforehand by eco-designing our products. This issue is addressed in our packaging, for example, through the removal of boxes and labels, lighter packaging, using recycled and recyclable materials, etc. The issue is also addressed in our formulas by reducing the amount of ingredients...

Our goal is in line with the goal detailed in the French government's " Anti-Waste Law " : -15 % between 2020 and 2030.

We do sell our products in China and the tests imposed by local regulations are carried out by laboratories accredited by the Chinese authorities. Some of these tests are carried out on animals. However, we do not condone this method which we cannot oppose. European cosmetics as well as other international associations of professionals in the cosmetics industry engage in a dialogue with Chinese authorities to put an end to these requirements.
Laboratories Pierre Fabre Dermo-Cosmétique, and thus the Klorane brand, as a member of Cosmetics Europe, supports actions to convince Chinese authorities to remove these tests on animals and to use alternative methods, as in Europe. We believe that it's by working with the Chinese government that we will be able to move things forward.

We are committed to respecting the environment and human beings (including farmers) on several levels:
On the scale of Klorane brand:
To work in a sustainable way with our suppliers and partners, we have a responsible purchasing Charter (which will soon be available on the website). We prioritise short supply chains and suppliers committed to circular economy. We evaluate 100% of our suppliers on their ethical practices and methods of production. We prioritise sustainable relations with our suppliers and prioritise local suppliers.

Thanks to the Klorane Botanical Foundation, we are making sure that the development of social and environmental projects are in relation to the supply chains. Klorane Botanical Foundation, a corporate foundation for the protection and development of botanical heritage, acts to preserve plant biodiversity in a sustainable way and pass on botanical knowledge. On the scale of Pierre Fabre Group:
Several initiatives have been put in place by the group, which is managed by our Natural and Environmental approach, the Pierre Fabre Green Mission. It also guarantees the sustainability and respect for plant resources that we use.
Within our two botanical conservatoires, a place to protect and research, we ensure the preservation of many endangered plant species.

These commitments have been recognized by certification:
In 2019, the Pierre Fabre Group evaluated its CSR approach according to ISO 26000, achieving the excellence level of ECOCERT 26000.
Klorane is a brand within the Pierre Fabre Dermo-Cosmétique Group that has the highest level of Evaluation For Life, with a score of 81.5%.

Palm oil, from oil palms, is grown intensively in various parts of the world and has a heavy impact on biodiversity. The sustainable supply of palm oil and palm derivatives is one of our laboratories major concerns.

From 2017, we have not used palm oil (obtained from mesocarp - flesh - palm fruit) in our products, and we have reduced more than 90% our use of palm oil (obtained by extraction from the seeds - kernels - fruit of the palm oil) for long-lasting palm oil certification.

Our laboratory is a pioneer in identifying, developing and validating alternative methods to animal testing.

In fact, we have actively contributed to European research programmes led jointly by the European Commission and the cosmetics industry in this field.

Naturalness

Naturalness

Inspired by nature, Klorane is committed to offering you ever more natural skin care.

A product is said to be "natural" if the content of its natural formula or natural-origin ingredients is at least 95%.

At Klorane, we have made the decision to prioritise natural-origin ingredients that have proven tolerance and effectiveness: new non-rinse 2018 body and baby products are the proof of at least 95% natural origin (excluding Eryteal).

From 2019, Klorane continues to improve: all of our new non-rinse products will be formulated with at least 95% ingredients of natural origin. The remaining percentages are essential ingredients for stability and / or sensory qualities that do not have natural equivalents which are also relevant and effective at present.

We have also made the choice of having 100% of our plant-based active ingredients. We prioritise organic cultivation or phytosanitary treatments (products, fertilisers). A quarter of our plants (which are used for our plant extracts) are grown in our own fields and by our own farmers.

All Klorane products are vegan (no animal-origin ingredients). With the exception of products from the Flax range (an animal derivative is used in the fragrance), and KERATINcaps dietary supplements.

Klorane skincare is formulated with naturalness for the whole family. In fact, it's not just because an ingredient or a formula is natural or organic that it is better. Only tolerance tests, rigorous clinical monitoring of our developments and a cosmetovigilance service allow us to ensure an excellent level of efficacy. We are able to certify the source of our ingredients. Most independent organic labels prohibit, for example, chemical preservatives, silicones, fragrances and synthetic dyes... but the substitution ingredients used are not always better:
- Essential oils used to replace synthetic fragrances can be highly allergenic depending on the target they are intended for. Allergic people will necessarily be more sensitive, but someone tolerant, after repeated use, can become sensitive to an allergen.
- The alcohol that replaces preservatives is a drying product for the epidermis, which also encourages the penetration of allergens.
These few examples explain why Klorane chose not to go through organic formulation in order to always prioritize the balance between efficacy and naturalness, especially among our most fragile consumers: babies. But for many of our ingredients, we have chosen organic certifier or guaranteed them without any phytosanitary treatments.

Since 2021, all rinse-off Klorane products will be biodegradable according to the OCDE 301B test. The biodegradability of our products is tested under normal conditions of use, such as in a bathroom connected to a waste water treatment system.
