Native to Europe, Calendula, often referred to as pot marigold, is a plant that grows and is readily cultivated throughout the Mediterranean basin. Already known and used in ancient times by the Arabs, Greeks and Indians for its medicinal, culinary, cosmetic and dyeing (fabric dye and food coloring) properties, this plant rose to popularity in the Middle ages and was increasingly relied on for a variety of purposes throughout the centuries.
Traditionally, Calendula was known to soothe all sorts of ailments (insect bites, snake bites, jaundice, conjunctivitis, ringworm, painful periods and fever). Today, it is a remedy that is particularly appreciated in dermatology, to treat skin concerns: irritations, redness, sunburn, skin inflammation (psoriasis, eczema, acne, etc.), itching, cradle cap in infants, cracked nipples due to breastfeeding, etc. Its soothing, healing properties help regenerate the skin.
